Welcome to
K9 Explorers
K9 Explorers is based in Tauranga, Bay of Plenty, we offer training and group adventures. Hello I'm Leah! It is a joy to take your beloved dogs out on adventures where they can enjoy the exercise and enrichment they deserve and need. I love seeing both their K9 friendships and their walking skills grow. Additionally I find it rewarding to help owners see how smart their dogs are and to strengthen their bond with their companions through the shared language of positive reinforcement training. I have always had a passion for rescue dogs and most of my adult life I have been involved in dog rescue as a SPCA volunteer and also fostering puppies and dogs for a local rescue. In 2023 I became a certified trainer by earning the prestigious Dog Trainer Professional Diploma from The Karen Pryor Academy and continue to upskill as there is always more to learn about our amazing canines!!
My journey into dog behavior began when I adopted Khan 15 years ago from the SPCA, who was a brindle pitbull/husky/sharpei/ACD mix!. His early struggles from resource guarding to dog aggression taught me invaluable lessons about dog language and training. Khan ended up helping foster over a dozen puppies in addition to leading small group walks.
Another very important member of the K9 explorers team is beautiful Husky mix Fleur (pictured above!) Fleur was found as a skinny stray and was days away from giving birth to 7 puppies. The pound fell for her gentle nature and the amazing Vadas angels rescue team took her under her wing until she was adopted. She joined my family and K9 Explorers in early 2025 and since then she has been an important part of the team taking groups of dogs out on adventures and helping to socialize and boost the confidence of younger dogs in training.

Leah is such a wonderful person. She just loves dogs and they love her. She walks our elderly dog and he adores her. He has benefited from the training she gives during walks. Pictures and an update from every walk. Really professional, reliable and fabulous value.
My two border collies Layla and Milo totally adore Leah, she walks them weekly and keeps me updated whilst I am at work its lovely to receive photos of their adventure. She's very experienced and has a lovely calm nature
